WhatsApp is building a tidier settings menu for Android. Related options would sit together inside rounded boxes, so it is easier to see where one section ends and the next begins. The design turned up in an early test version of the app, and nobody can use it yet.
What changed
The look was spotted in WhatsApp beta version 2.26.43.3. A beta is an early version the company uses to try out features before a public release. Today, settings appear mostly as a plain list. In the new design, options in the same group look connected, with rounder corners on the first and last items.
The style follows Material Design 3 Expressive, Google's design guidelines for Android apps. Account, Privacy and Notifications menus are also expected to get the new layout.
What it means for you
- Nothing changes in how WhatsApp works or protects you.
- No new settings or privacy tools were reported.
- Privacy and notification controls may be easier to find.
WhatsApp is also reportedly working on a bottom navigation bar that shrinks into a small pill as you scroll, and on a redesigned chat bar.
What is not known yet
WhatsApp has not said when the new menu will reach the public. The feature is still in development, so the final look could change before release.
The takeawayWhatsApp's Android settings may soon look tidier, but the update only changes appearance and has no release date.
