Samsung Galaxy owners can move their favorite apps off the home screen and into a side menu called the Edge Panel. It opens with a swipe from inside any app. A writer at Android Police says the setup helped cut digital clutter on her Galaxy S25+, and she now relies on it daily.

What it is

The Edge Panel is part of One UI, Samsung's version of Android. It only exists on Samsung phones. Other Android users may be able to copy a similar side-panel setup with other tools, but it is not built in. The writer also checks it after each One UI update to make sure her settings carried over.

How to turn it on

After you unlock the phone, look for a thin, translucent handle on the right side of the screen. It is mostly tucked away. If it is missing, the feature may be off. Go to Settings, then Display, and switch on Edge panels.

Swipe the handle toward the left to open the panel. Tap anywhere else on the screen to close it. Swipe left again to reach tools such as a compass, flashlight or ruler. The three-dot icon in the upper-right corner swaps between them.

Why it saves time

The panel works across all apps. That means a quick check of another app does not require leaving the current one, going home and hunting for an icon. The writer says opening the panel takes about as long as reaching the home screen.

She also uses it for the flashlight. Swiping down for the quick panel sometimes opens notifications by mistake. The Edge Panel avoids that.

How to add apps

Tap the pencil icon below the open panel. Pick an app from the grid, then hold and drag its icon to an empty spot. The panel starts with 14 slots. You can add more, and the extra apps appear when you scroll down.

The writer keeps her total at 16 or fewer. Past that, the panel gets cluttered, and it becomes hard to remember which apps live there and which stayed on the home screen.

Other tweaks

  • Good Lock's Home Up module can show three app columns instead of two, if your screen has room.
  • Drag one app icon onto another in the panel to make a folder.
  • The panel can also hold split-screen app pairs, though the source text cuts off before the steps.
The takeaway

On a Samsung Galaxy, turn on Edge panels in Settings, then Display, and move your most-used apps there to clear your home screen.
