Samsung plans to start selling its first AI smart glasses in mid-December, first in Korea and the United States. The product is called Intelligent Eyewear. It is Samsung's answer to Meta, which currently leads this market with glasses made with brands such as Ray-Ban.

What the glasses do

The glasses have a camera and a microphone. They can look at your surroundings and respond by voice. Two main uses stand out: live translation of speech and turn-by-turn directions, both without pulling out a phone.

They can also capture a document or a meeting scene and file it automatically in the notes app on a Galaxy smartphone. The glasses run on Google's Android XR software and its Gemini AI. Samsung says one charge lasts up to nine hours.

Looks and choices

The designs come from two eyewear brands, Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. Four models have been shown in total. Two were unveiled at Google I/O in May, and two more at the Galaxy Unpacked event in London.

Where and when

Sales start only in Korea and the United States. Europe, China and Japan are not part of the first launch. That is a smaller rollout than this year's Galaxy S26 phones, which reached more than 120 countries in stages.

An industry official said the company will widen sales after checking early demand and user reactions, because this is a new type of product. Samsung took a similar path with its Galaxy XR headset, which launched in Korea and the US last October and reached the United Kingdom in July.

What is not known yet

  • The price. Samsung is still discussing it.
  • The exact December date. Only mid-month has been given.
  • When the glasses will reach other countries.
  • How useful they feel in daily life, which reviews will show.

What to do

Frequent travelers and anyone who wants hands-free help may find these appealing. Still, the price and day-to-day usefulness are the two things that will decide whether they succeed. Waiting for the price and early reviews is the sensible move.

The takeaway

Samsung's AI glasses arrive in mid-December in Korea and the US, so wait for the price and early reviews before deciding.
