Nvidia is raising prices on its RTX 50 series graphics cards for the second time, by as much as nearly $500 on the top model. ZDNet reports that the company has notified users of the increase this week. A graphics card is the part of a computer that draws images. It matters for games, video editing and AI work.
What changed
The flagship RTX 5090 gets the biggest jump, nearly $500 on top of a price of about $6,000 at Best Buy. The budget RTX 5050 and 5060 rise by a smaller $50 to $60. In August, Nvidia warned that the whole RTX 50 line would see increases of up to 15%. The cause given is a global memory shortage driven by demand for AI.
Who it affects
Older RTX 40 and RTX 30 cards are not directly affected. Even so, some resellers may add their own markups or buy up stock to resell at higher prices.
Intel and AMD also make graphics cards. Neither has announced a price increase, and neither plans immediate changes. ZDNet expects they may follow eventually, as big companies buy up the materials used for AI chips and commit parts to AI data centers instead of the consumer market.
What is not known yet
The report does not give a full list of new prices for every RTX 50 model. It also does not say when, or whether, Intel and AMD will raise their prices.
The takeawayIf a new graphics card is on your list, expect higher prices on RTX 50 models and compare sellers carefully before paying a reseller markup.
