Payments company Mollie has released official plugins for Claude and ChatGPT. A business can now ask an AI assistant to handle billing tasks in plain language, instead of clicking through Mollie's menus. The AI prepares the work. A person still has to approve any transfer of money.

What changed

Mollie launched the two plugins along with an upgraded open MCP server. MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, a common way for AI assistants to connect to other software. Together, these let teams run more than 60 operations from inside the chat tools they may already use every day.

What it can do

The tasks fall into four areas:

  • Payment links and checkouts
  • Subscription management
  • Draft invoicing
  • Real-time financial reporting

Mollie gave several examples. You can ask for a payment link for a named client that expires in 48 hours. You can pause a monthly plan until the next billing cycle. You can create a credit note for an existing invoice and save it as a draft. You can also ask for your top payment methods and average order value over the past seven days.

The safety catch

Mollie stresses the split between preparing and doing. When you ask for a transfer, the assistant formats it, checks the recipient details, then stops. Money moves only after you review a summary and approve it. Mollie says the assistant cannot move money on its own.

The assistant also follows the roles, daily limits and security controls already set in your Mollie account. Account operators can see and manage which capabilities the AI is allowed to prepare.

Setup and who it is for

Mollie says no code or technical setup is needed. You approve the connection on a standard sign-in screen, and the company says it takes under a minute. The target users are small business owners, entrepreneurs and finance teams who want to automate repeat tasks without calling in IT.

Rogier Schoute, Mollie's Chief Product Officer, said the aim is to let business owners spend time growing rather than on admin. In his words, the AI handles the preparatory work while the owner keeps control.

What is not known yet

The material does not say whether the plugins cost extra, or which countries and account types can use them. It also does not say how well the tools work in daily use. Those details are worth checking in a Mollie account before relying on the feature.

The takeaway

If you use Mollie, you can try chat-based billing in minutes, and nothing moves until you approve it, but check cost and availability first.
