iPhone Duo owners can now write on their phones with an Apple Pencil and light their faces during video calls. Both features arrive with iOS 27.2, the latest software update, which Apple has now released. Both are exclusive to the iPhone Duo.
What changed
Apple Pencil support works on both the outer and inner screens. You can mark up PDFs and images, sketch and doodle, and save handwritten notes. It arrives just days after the device first reached customers. 9to5Mac says many people expected a longer wait.
The second feature is Edge Light. It adds a ring of light around the edge of the screen to light your face on calls. It started as a Mac feature and is now on iPhone only for the Duo. It works with FaceTime and popular apps such as Zoom.
What to know before you try
- Only the Apple Pencil (USB-C) works. Older Pencil models are not supported.
- Update to iOS 27.2 to get both features.
- The Duo can also fold into a laptop-style seated mode for hands-free calls.
The report does not say what the Pencil costs, whether other Pencil models will be supported later, or whether Edge Light will reach other iPhones. iOS 27.2 also brings upgraded Siri AI powers and new features for Messages and Apple TV, but details were not given.
The takeawayIf you own an iPhone Duo, update to iOS 27.2, and buy the USB-C Apple Pencil if you want to write on it.
