Instacart, the grocery delivery app, is reportedly looking for a buyer. The Information reported that the company has discussed a possible deal with Uber and has held sale talks with DoorDash. Sources said the Uber talks are not ongoing. Nothing has been announced.
What was reported
The Information, citing sources with knowledge of the matter, published its report on Friday, Oct. 23. It said Instacart has been working with an investment bank to explore its options. The company has also held sale talks with other businesses. An Instacart spokesperson declined to comment. PYMNTS contacted Uber and DoorDash and had not yet heard back.
Why Instacart might sell
Instacart went public in 2023. Since then, its growth has lagged its rivals, the report said. Yearly revenue growth slowed to 11% for 2024 and 2025, down from 19% in 2023. DoorDash grew revenue 28% from 2024 to 2025. Uber grew 18%.
That gap remains even after Instacart's push into selling ads on its app. The report also said Amazon may be holding Instacart back as it keeps expanding its own delivery services.
The stronger side of the story
Instacart is not in trouble on cash. The report said it has made money consistently over the last few quarters, and its growth has picked up this year. In the second quarter, revenue rose 14% to $1 billion. Free cash flow, which is roughly the cash left after costs and investments, was $480 million.
PYMNTS has also argued that Instacart's grocery data and delivery network could matter as big AI companies such as Google and Amazon build shopping into their own products.
What it means for shoppers
If you order groceries through Instacart, a new owner could someday change the app, the fees or the deals you see. That is a possibility, not a plan. It is not known whether a sale will happen, who the buyer might be, or what a price would look like.
For now, the reports describe talks and options, not a done deal. Instacart works the same way it did last week.
The takeawayInstacart is reportedly exploring a sale, but no deal exists, so nothing changes for shoppers today.
