Google's Gemini assistant may soon be able to set up an eSIM on your phone. Android Authority found signs of this in the code of an app. It points to a new Gemini connector that can already start the eSIM setup with a few simple prompts.
What an eSIM is
An eSIM is a digital SIM card. It replaces the tiny plastic card that used to go inside your phone. It lets you add a phone plan or a travel data plan without handling any hardware. Today, though, the setup often means digging through your phone's settings.
What was found
The find comes from an APK teardown. That means someone looked inside the files of an app to see what is hidden there. Features found this way are often unfinished. The code suggests Gemini has a new connector, which is a link that lets the assistant work with another service or function. This one can begin the eSIM setup process.
Why it could matter
If it launches, adding a plan could take a few chat messages instead of a search through menus. That could help most when you travel and want local data, or when you switch carriers.
What is not known yet
This is an early find in unreleased code. Google may change it or never ship it. The material does not say when it could arrive, which phones or carriers would work with it, or how much of the setup Gemini would handle on its own.
The takeawayGemini may one day start your eSIM setup through chat, but this is unreleased code, so nothing is promised yet.
