Elavon, a payments company owned by U.S. Bank, says it plans to build its payment tools directly into SAP business software. The company announced the plan in a press release on Monday, Oct. 26, after joining SAP's partner program, called SAP PartnerEdge.

What changed

The plan is known as embedded payments. That means taking and managing payments inside the software a company already uses, instead of in a separate tool. Elavon says the first step connects to two SAP offerings: the SAP Digital Payments Add-On and the Open Payment Framework.

The goal is to help large companies manage payments across finance, commerce and other core operations. Elavon says it plans to extend the link to other SAP products over time. It says partner membership will support building and delivering the joint products and services.

Who it affects

The news matters most to businesses that run on SAP. Elavon processes payments for small businesses and large clients in the United States, Europe and Canada. Its CEO, Wally Mlynarski, said the move would bring secure, reliable payment tools into SAP applications that businesses use every day.

What is not known yet

  • When the integration will be available to customers.
  • Which SAP products will get it first after the initial two.
  • What it will cost, or how it compares with current payment setups.

The release describes plans, not a finished product. Businesses that use SAP may want to ask their SAP contact or payment provider what this could mean for them.

The takeaway

Elavon plans to build payments into SAP software, but it has given no launch date or pricing yet.
