Discord plans to make some messages from big public servers searchable on Google and other search engines. The company announced the change on 27 October. Individual messages start appearing from mid-December 2026, so people who chat in large public communities may soon find their posts visible to anyone on the web.
What changed
On 16 November 2026, Discord will launch Server Web Pages. These are public web pages for eligible servers that people can browse without joining Discord. Channel Summaries, which are automated overviews of discussions, launch the same day. Individual posts, called Channel Messages, follow from mid-December in a gradual rollout that Discord expects to take several weeks.
Discord says the goal is to help people find useful information, such as gaming tips and strategies. An earlier trial ran in communities such as NBA 2K, Rust and Dead by Daylight, but only posts from administrators and moderators were shown. The wider rollout adds eligible messages from regular members.
Who it affects
Not every server qualifies. A server needs at least 1,000 members, must be at least eight weeks old, must meet Discord's activity and safety requirements, and must have Server Discovery turned on. Private servers, direct messages, group chats, private threads and private forums are excluded. Messages posted before the mid-December launch will not appear as Channel Messages.
Usernames and avatars will be hidden next to each message. That does not guarantee anonymity. Personal details or a distinctive experience in a post could still point to who wrote it.
Your controls
- Administrators can turn off Channel Messages for chosen channels or switch the feature off entirely.
- Members can opt out under User Settings, then Data & Privacy.
- Channels taking part will show notices explaining the feature.
There are limits. A member's posts may still show up in Channel Summaries, which administrators control separately. Deleting a message later is up to the user, and copies may stay in search results until search engines update their records.
Defaults by region
The member setting is off by default in the UK, the EU and European Economic Area, Canada, Brazil, Australia and South Korea. People there must turn it on before their messages can appear. Even then, showing up in search results is not guaranteed. In other regions, the setting is on by default unless users turn it off. Teen users cannot enable Channel Messages.
What happens next
Administrators can adjust their web presence settings before Server Web Pages launch on 16 November. Members who post in large public servers have until mid-December to review their own settings, since individual messages begin appearing then.
The takeawayIf you post in big public Discord servers, check Data & Privacy settings before mid-December, because deleted messages may linger in search results.
