Apple has released iOS 27.2, and it lets you show your face and your surroundings at the same time in a group FaceTime call. The feature is called Dual Capture. Until now, the report says, it was not available in group calls.

What changed

Dual Capture streams video from the front and rear cameras at once. On a compatible iPhone running iOS 27, flipping the camera during a FaceTime call turns it on automatically. That means family or coworkers can see what you are looking at and how you react to it.

It works on the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone Air, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo.

The iPhone Duo also supports Duo FaceTime. It uses the under-display camera on the inner screen and the camera on the outer screen. A second person can join a group call without everyone having to squeeze into one frame.

The update also adds an option to bring a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner into a call.

What is not clear yet

The report does not say how the interpreter and captioner option is set up, which services work with it, or what they cost. It also does not say whether older iPhones will get Dual Capture. Based on the listed models, phones outside that list do not appear to support it.

The takeaway

If you have a listed iPhone, update to iOS 27.2 and flip the camera during a group FaceTime call to try Dual Capture.
