Research firm TrendForce expects Apple to capture nearly 30% of the foldable phone market in 2027. Its figure is 29.8%. A foldable is a phone with a screen that folds open. The forecast covers the iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable iPhone, which has been shipping for nearly a week.
What the forecast says
TrendForce expects 23.5 million foldables to ship worldwide in 2027, up 16.3%. That would put Apple second, behind Samsung at 31.9% and ahead of Huawei at 21.3%. Samsung is projected to slip from 35.1% in 2026. Huawei is projected to slip from 24.8%.
The firm says Apple's biggest advantage is that it controls its own chips, its operating system and its developer ecosystem, meaning the app makers who build for its phones. As apps and reliability improve, TrendForce expects the contest to move from the fold itself to how well a phone handles several tasks at once.
What is not known yet
This is a forecast, not a sales result. Nothing in the report shows how many people will actually buy the Duo. TrendForce earlier predicted 5 million Duo units by the end of 2026, and the new report repeats its earlier projections. Shoppers should treat the numbers as an educated guess.
The takeawayA forecast says Apple could become the second biggest foldable seller by 2027, but it is a prediction, not proof that buyers will follow.
