Apple CEO John Ternus says the Siri AI that just shipped is only the beginning. On Apple's quarterly earnings call, he said there is "still so much more we plan to do." He also said Apple plans to charge for some extra use of Siri and Apple Intelligence features.
What Ternus said
Ternus described Siri today as "primarily request-based." That means you ask, and it answers or acts. He said Siri is built on a modern design that gives Apple "real room to expand capabilities over time."
He also called agentic tools promising. These are tools that act for you instead of waiting for each request. Ternus said Apple wants users to know what they are getting access to, and wants it done in a way that protects security and privacy.
The money side
Earlier in the call, Apple said it intends to charge a fee for expanded usage limits on certain Siri AI and Apple Intelligence capabilities. Ternus later said, "We think intelligence is going to be another opportunity as well." The reading is that as Siri improves, some features may cost extra.
What is not known yet
- Which features will carry a fee
- How much the fee will be
- When agentic tools might arrive
- What the higher usage limits will look like
For iPhone owners, the near-term message is that Siri should keep changing. Apple already pushed Siri updates in iOS 27.2 last week.
The takeawayExpect Siri on your iPhone to keep improving, and expect some higher-usage features to cost extra, though Apple has not said which ones or how much.
