Google added a way to save notes inside a Gemini chat, and one Android writer now uses it instead of Keep for research. It is open to personal accounts.

One Android writer says he has mostly stopped using Google Keep for notes. He now saves them straight from a Gemini chat. The tool is a new @Gemini Notebook connector, and Android Police says it is open to everyone, including people with personal Google accounts.

What changed

Google recently added the connector to Gemini, its AI chatbot. A connector lets the chatbot work with another Google tool. Typing @Gemini Notebook before a prompt lets you create, edit and pull up information from a notebook, with no app switching. Before, the writer used an @Google Keep connector for the same job.

What notes can do now

  • Ask Gemini to answer using one specific notebook.
  • Ask it to list the sources saved on a topic.
  • Turn a notebook into an AI video, podcast, quiz, mind map or slide deck.

The writer says Gemini notes look less polished than Keep notes. He still uses Keep for his weekly grocery list.

What is not known

The article is one person's experience. It does not cover limits, costs or whether Keep notes and notebooks sync. It also does not say how well the generated videos and quizzes work. The writer says his notes are mostly research from Gemini chats, so the switch may suit others less.

The takeaway

If you already research in Gemini, try typing @Gemini Notebook before a prompt to save notes there, and keep Keep for simple lists.
