Vivo has launched the V80, a phone with a very large 7200mAh battery and a new AI camera mode that restyles photos after you press the shutter. It costs ₹62,999 in India, about $660. The reviewer at 9to5Google says the camera mode is the most interesting part, and also raises a concern about labeling.
What the phone offers
The V80 has a 6.59-inch OLED screen that refreshes 144 times a second. Inside are a Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip, 8GB of memory and the 7200mAh battery, which charges at 90 watts. It is rated IP68 and IP69 for dust and water resistance, including hot water jets.
- Main camera: 50MP Sony LYTIA 700V
- Telephoto: 50MP with 3x optical zoom
- Ultrawide: 8MP or 12MP, depending on region
- Selfie: 50MP ZEISS camera with a 90-degree Center-Stage view
How the AI Creation mode works
Point the camera at a scene and the mode picks a style it thinks fits. It also offers two other styles to pick quickly, or you can open the full menu. It can remove people from a photo automatically. Original images stay in Vivo's Albums app, and you can change the style later.
All of this runs in the cloud, meaning on Vivo's servers, not on the phone. Each photo takes about one minute, and up to 10 can process at once. With no signal, you wait to see the result. The reviewer found no daily limit.
The testing was done on the Vivo X500, a phone that costs about $300 more and has the same mode. The reviewer calls some results jaw-dropping, especially fixing flat light on a cloudy hike. Travel styles like Sunlight looked convincing. Dramatic Landscape styles showed obvious AI editing when zoomed in.
The labeling problem
Vivo does not use SynthID or another standard way to mark these images as AI-edited. SynthID is a Google tool that tags AI-made images. The only clue is the text "ai_creation" in the photo's hidden data, and Google's Gemini assistant does not yet recognize it. The reviewer wants Vivo to add a standard marker.
Who it is for and when it ships
The V80 is aimed at buyers who want long battery life and camera tricks at a lower price than a flagship. It will be available in India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other regions in the coming weeks. The material gives no US price or US release, so American shoppers cannot count on buying it.
The takeawayVivo's V80 pairs a huge battery with a cloud AI camera mode, but its photos carry no standard AI label and US availability is unconfirmed.
