Some TV owners are asking an AI helper, Claude Code, to switch off the ads and tracking software built into their sets. In one example, a Xiaomi TV had 25 software packages turned off and a new home screen built.

What is happening

The effort is tied to a free project called cleanyourtv. It lists tested setups for 107 TV models from 37 brands. Software packages are the small programs that run on a TV. Your TV may use some of them to show ads or track what you watch.

Tracking is also getting legal attention. Texas sued Sony, Samsung, LG, Hisense and TCL in December 2025 over viewing-data collection.

What to know first

This fix can help on some sets, not all of them. Owners should turn off debugging when they are done. Debugging is a setting meant for developers that gives outside tools deeper access to the TV. Leaving it on can make the set less safe.

Several things are not known yet. The full steps were not available in the source material. It is also unclear whether the changes last after a TV update, or whether they affect warranties or app features. Anyone curious should first check whether the project lists their exact model.

The takeaway

A free project may help strip ads and tracking from some TVs, but turn debugging off afterward and check that your model is listed first.
