TikTok Shop now has a returns option that needs no box and no printed label. It is called Happy Returns, it is owned by UPS, and it is built directly into TikTok Shop for the first time. Pacsun and Everlane are among the retailers using it ahead of the post-holiday returns rush.
What changed
Until now, Happy Returns worked through individual retailers' websites. This is the first time it has been built into a platform like TikTok Shop. It is also TikTok Shop's only box-free, label-free returns option. Patrick Nommensen, TikTok Shop's president of strategic initiatives, said it will make returns "faster, hassle free, and more trustworthy."
Who it affects
Shoppers who buy clothes on TikTok Shop may find returns easier. Sellers may spend less on returns, which is a growing concern for stores and the marketplaces that host them.
Stores can use it whether they ship orders themselves or use TikTok's in-house services. For orders TikTok fulfills, no setup is needed. Existing Happy Returns users can turn it on in TikTok's seller center. For seller-shipped orders, Happy Returns says it will guide the store through setup. It suits merchants with about 10,000 or more returns a year, mostly in apparel, footwear and accessories.
What is not known yet
The announcement does not say what the service costs sellers, when each shopper will see it, or how items are handed back. FedEx, a UPS rival, has a competing service called Easy Returns, which launched last year.
The takeawayIf you sell clothing on TikTok Shop, check whether Happy Returns fits your return volume before the post-holiday rush.
