T-Mobile is launching a new set of plans called T-Mix in November. They start at $55 a month for one line with AutoPay. Instead of giving everyone the same streaming bundle, T-Mobile hands each account a set number of "Picks" to spend on perks such as Netflix, YouTube Premium or DoorDash.

What changed

T-Mobile is reshuffling its unlimited plans after raising rates over the past couple of years. T-Mix has three tiers. Prices assume AutoPay with a debit card, bank account or T-Mobile Visa, and taxes and government fees are billed on top.

  • Standard, $55: 50GB of premium data, 480p video, no high-speed hotspot, 1 Pick.
  • More, $75: unlimited premium data, 4K video, 60GB hotspot, 15GB roaming in Canada and Mexico, 5GB abroad, 2 Picks.
  • Loaded, $95: unlimited premium data, 4K video, 250GB hotspot, 30GB in Canada and Mexico, 15GB abroad, 3 Picks.

A hotspot lets your phone share its internet with a laptop or tablet. On Standard, hotspot use is slowed to basic 3G speeds.

How Picks work

Think of Picks as monthly credits. Simple services cost one Pick. Ad-free plans and gaming passes cost more.

  • 1 Pick: ad-supported Netflix or Hulu, Paramount+ Essential, DoorDash DashPass, YouTube Premium Lite, 500 Delta SkyMiles, or T-Satellite roaming.
  • 2 Picks: ad-free YouTube Premium, Apple Music Individual, Google AI Pro or Xbox Game Pass Premium.
  • 3 to 4 Picks: Netflix Standard or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (3), ESPN Unlimited or Netflix Premium (4).

You can change your perks four times a year, using three change windows plus an "Annual Remix" window. Network add-ons like T-Satellite, which uses Starlink, can be switched on or off any time. Extra lines add more Picks to your pool.

Who it affects

People with one or two lines may come out ahead. T-Mix More and Loaded can cost less than the older Experience and Go5G equivalents. If you already pay for something like DashPass or YouTube Premium, the perks add up fast.

Families should slow down. Older plans often relied on third-line-free deals, so accounts with three or four lines could pay more under T-Mix. Taxes and fees are also billed separately, unlike older plans that folded them into the price. Expect a final charge several dollars above the sticker price.

What to do

T-Mobile says current customers will not be forced off their plans right away. Older plans are being removed from its website and moved to in-store sales only. If you are happy with your bill and already use the perks you have, doing nothing is the simplest move. If you are tempted to switch, add up your real monthly total with taxes and fees first.

The takeaway

If your current T-Mobile plan works for you, stay put, and do the full math with taxes and fees before switching, especially with three or more lines.
