Suno now lets you write and generate songs by chatting with ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, though the tool is in beta and needs an early-access sign-up.

Suno, the AI music maker, has launched a tool that lets you create songs without leaving your AI assistant. It works with ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. Suno announced the tool, called Suno MCP, in its release notes on Wednesday, October 28. It is still in beta, which means it is an early test version.

What it does

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is an open standard that Anthropic introduced in November 2024. It lets AI assistants connect to outside tools and services. Suno's own page also lists Cursor, a coding tool, as supported. Outside developers had built unofficial Suno connectors before. This one comes from Suno itself.

  • Work out lyrics and a musical style in conversation, then have Suno generate the track.
  • Build a full song from a voice recording or loop you upload.
  • Make covers, extensions and mashups from songs already in your Suno library.

Cost and setup

Every song made this way is saved to your Suno library and uses credits from your Suno plan. Suno says the tool works on all plans, including the free one. You do need to join an early-access sign-up list first. No API key, a kind of technical password, is required. You log in to your Suno account and grant permission.

There is one catch. Suno notes that some AI apps only let you add connectors on certain paid plans. Check your assistant's settings before you try.

The separate developer tool

Suno also has a developer API, which would let companies build Suno's music generation into their own apps. Music Business Worldwide found a sign-in portal for it. Suno says the API is still in beta. It told the outlet it will not be open to all developers at first. It plans to launch with a select set of partners and was still reviewing applications. It has not named any partners.

Why it matters now

The launch comes while Suno is signing licensing deals and fighting lawsuits. It settled with Warner Music Group in November 2025 and has deals with BMG and Believe. Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment sued again on September 18. Suno filed its answer on October 20, denying the claims and arguing that any copying is fair use.

What is not known yet

Suno has not said when the MCP tool will leave beta or how long the early-access list will take. It has not said when the API will open beyond its first partners.

The takeaway

If you already use an AI assistant, you can try making songs there, but check that your plan allows outside connectors and join Suno's early-access list.
