Salesforce announced on October 26, 2026 that merchants using its commerce tools can now let shoppers check out inside Google's AI chat tools. That includes the Gemini app and AI Mode in Google Search. A shopper could find a product by chatting with the AI and buy it right there.

What changed

Merchants can switch on checkout through the Universal Commerce Protocol on Google. They stay the merchant of record, so they still own the sale. Salesforce also added a shopping assistant named Carter. It answers questions in plain language, checks local stock and responds based on the page a customer is viewing.

  • Agentic Commerce Search is an add-on for B2C Commerce customers and selected outside platforms.
  • Business Manager can work across up to 1,000 languages and locales.
  • Product-list search handles up to 1,000 product IDs at a time.
  • New reports compare revenue, orders and conversions by outside traffic source.

What is not known yet

The release does not give a price for the add-on, and it attaches no revenue forecast to the new tools. It is also unclear how many merchants will use them. Salesforce stock traded at EUR 220.03 on October 27 at Lang & Schwarz. The next test is whether customers adopt the add-ons and pay for them.

The takeaway

If you sell online, ask your commerce platform whether and when shoppers will be able to buy from you inside AI chat tools.
