Perplexity, the AI search company, has launched Teammates, AI helpers that run around the clock on work tasks. It is the company's answer to similar tools from OpenAI, called Dots, and Anthropic, called Claude Duet. The catch is the price. Teammates require Perplexity's Max plan, which costs $200 a month.
What it does
Each Teammate can take on a different job inside a shared workspace, and several can work at the same time. They pull in projects, skills and memory from the Perplexity tools a person already uses. So they do not start from scratch.
Teammates work with Perplexity Computer, a system that can run AI agents on your device to finish tasks. Perplexity says Teammates build on top of it, aimed at ongoing, large-scale work.
You can follow progress in separate threads in the Perplexity app, or chat with a Teammate in Slack, the workplace messaging app.
What is not known yet
The material does not say which tasks Teammates handle best, how many a Max subscriber can run, or whether a cheaper plan is coming. Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas says the company expects every organization to have hundreds of teammates working for each person over time. For now, that is a vision, not a feature list.
The takeawayTeammates need the $200 a month Max plan, so test them on one routine task before paying for more.
