OpenAI has started a new company that sends its own AI engineers to work inside other businesses. It is called OpenAI Deployment Company, and it launched Monday. Instead of only selling software and leaving customers to work it out, OpenAI is offering people who help put AI to use in daily operations.

What changed

OpenAI is buying Tomoro, a consulting and engineering firm that helps companies turn AI into a practical advantage. The deal brings 150 experienced engineers and specialists to OpenAI. OpenAI owns and controls most of the new company. It launches with more than $4 billion in initial investment, which will pay for building operations and buying other firms that can speed up AI rollouts.

Brookfield, an asset firm, said it agreed to invest $500 million.

How it works

Think of it as outsourcing. OpenAI places specialists, called Forward Deployed Engineers, inside a client's business. They act as outside agents for hard AI problems. According to the announcement, their job is to:

  • Find where AI can make the biggest difference
  • Redesign key workflows and systems around it
  • Turn early gains into lasting systems

What early tests showed

John Deere, the farm and heavy equipment maker, and BBVA, a global financial group, have already tried the model. With John Deere, OpenAI built AI-powered recommendations for farmers during planting season. The team reviewed hundreds of real-world examples with subject experts. It also built custom checks to measure how accurate the advice was.

The result, as reported: farmers cut chemical use by up to 70%, and customer engagement rose.

A note on ads

The announcement does not mention advertising services. The report says the company appears to start with operational support and could branch out later. OpenAI's ad pilot in ChatGPT uses different partners. One of them, Adthena, launched a tool that tracks ChatGPT ad placements across more than 300,000 daily prompts.

What is not known yet

The material does not say what the service will cost, which companies can sign up, or whether smaller businesses will get access. It also does not name results from BBVA. For now, the clearest signal is direction: AI help may increasingly arrive as hands-on service rather than software alone.

The takeaway

If you run a business, watch for AI help that comes with people attached, and ask what it costs and who it is built for.
