OpenAI is pitching ChatGPT Voice as a planning helper for Diwali, the festival season when many Indian households juggle shopping, cooking, guests and gifts. The idea is simple: talk to the chatbot out loud and let it organize the details. The company is highlighting two Indian voice options, Neer and Leher, which run on GPT-Live-1.1.

What OpenAI is suggesting

The Times of India reports that OpenAI sees voice as a more natural way to coordinate a busy festival. Many family members often share the work of shopping lists, food, guest arrangements and gifts. The company says the Indian voices make it easier to talk about family traditions, preferences and household budgets.

Recipes, budgets and gifts

One use case is saving family recipes. Grandparents can describe a dish out loud, including in Hindi, even if the instructions are vague. ChatGPT then organizes the ingredients and steps into written form. It can also be asked to follow up when a quantity or step is unclear.

For money, users can state a total festival budget, mention what is already spent, and ask the chatbot to split the rest across gifts, groceries, decorations and miscellaneous costs. For gifts, it can suggest ideas based on a person's interests and lifestyle and the buyer's spending limit. OpenAI says this can even be done while walking through a shopping center.

Hosting and last-minute changes

OpenAI also pitches the feature for hosting. It can help build menus that account for dietary restrictions, children's preferences and cooking schedules. It can also create to-do lists, plan shopping trips around the time available, and suggest how to divide tasks among relatives, including age-appropriate jobs for children.

If extra guests show up, a user can describe the dishes already underway, the ingredients on hand and the time left. ChatGPT can then suggest quantity changes or quick additions to the menu.

What is not clear

These are the company's own suggestions, not test results. The report does not say how accurate the advice is, what it costs, or which devices and plans include these voices. Prices and quantities in particular are worth checking yourself.

  • Treat budget splits and menu ideas as a starting draft.
  • Confirm prices in the store before you buy.
  • Recheck ingredient amounts, especially when scaling for more guests.
The takeaway

ChatGPT Voice may help draft a Diwali budget or menu, but check prices and quantities yourself before relying on them.
