OpenAI is working on a dashboard that would let businesses see how often ChatGPT mentions them and how many people click through to their website. It was spotted by Juozas Kaziukėnas, who posted about it on LinkedIn. Search Engine Roundtable reported on it.
What the tool does
The tool is described as similar to Search Console or Webmaster Tools, which are dashboards site owners use to see how they appear in search. The sign-up page reportedly says "Claim your business in ChatGPT." It counts two things each day: how many times a business appeared in ChatGPT answers, and how many clicks went to its site. Results show up as a chart.
Businesses could also add their latest products, keep their info current, and let a business agent answer customer questions using context they control.
Limits and unknowns
- Only businesses that verify ownership can use it, for example by connecting a Shopify store.
- It reportedly shows no prompt data, user data, competitor rankings or benchmarks.
- It appears separate from ChatGPT ads and focused on regular, unpaid answers.
Because it shows no prompts, it cannot explain why mentions or clicks go up or down. Kaziukėnas said that paired with outside tools that track prompts, it could give reliable first-party numbers on whether efforts to appear in AI answers are working.
The feature is still a work in progress. He saw early signs in August and a banner suggesting launch may be close. OpenAI has not confirmed a launch date, pricing or who gets access, based on this report.
The takeawayIf customers might ask ChatGPT about businesses like yours, watch for this tool, and check that you can verify ownership of your store.
