Online shops may be hiding most of their products from AI shopping helpers, and the cause is wording. A webinar promotion from seoClarity says up to 80% of an online store's catalog can be invisible to conversational search. That means searches where people ask a question the way they would ask a person.
The wording gap
Shoppers describe what they need. Product pages often list plain specs. The promotion gives an example. A shopper asks for "boots that survive a muddy festival weekend," but the product data says "leather upper, black." The boots get missed. The company calls this a language problem, not a tech problem.
It also says Google, ChatGPT and AI Mode all pull from the same product data. If that is right, better product wording would help a store show up across all of them at once.
What is not known
The material is an ad for a webinar, not a study. It does not say how the 80% figure was measured or which stores were checked. It also does not explain how each AI tool picks products to show.
The webinar is set for Wednesday, October 28 at 2 pm ET. It features Chris Sachs, VP of Value Enablement, and Aris Vrakas, Product Lead, both at seoClarity. People who register but cannot attend live are promised a recording.
The takeawayIf you sell online, check whether your product descriptions use the words customers would actually say, not only technical specs.
