Nothing, the consumer tech company, says its first AI device will ship in December. CEO Carl Pei shared the news in a post on X. He did not say what the device is. He did say it has no new screen and "couldn't have been an app."
What Nothing has said
Pei called it Nothing's first "AI-native" product, meaning it is built around AI from the start. In his words: "It's a tool, but one built with the personality and care that have come to define a Nothing product." He shared an image with "NOTHING(R)" in the corner above a black rounded corner. It shows very little.
The launch comes a little over a year after Pei announced plans for AI-native devices and an AI operating system.
What is still unknown
- What the device actually is or does
- How much it costs
- The exact December ship date
- Whether it connects to a phone or works on its own
Rumors and rivals
Last month, a rumor said Nothing plans two pairs of AI smart glasses, including one without cameras. An earlier rumor said the company is repositioning itself as an AI-first company with a shift to AI accessories. Neither is confirmed here.
Screen-free AI gadgets already exist, including the Humane AI Pin, the Friend and AI stuffed animals. OpenAI is also reportedly working on an AI smart speaker with Jony Ive.
What to do
Pei argued that "looking for the iPhone of AI today is a dead end," and said the industry keeps hunting for one magical device. Earlier screen-free gadgets like the Humane AI Pin struggled to win people over. For anyone curious, the safer move is to wait for real reviews before buying.
The takeawayNothing's screen-free AI device arrives in December, but with no details yet, wait for real reviews before spending money.
