New tools show whether AI chatbots mention your business

Software can now check whether ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI tools name your business when customers ask for advice, though coverage and prices vary by plan.

A new kind of software can show whether AI chatbots mention your business when people ask them for advice. HubSpot published a roundup of eight such tools, from free diagnostics to enterprise platforms. The idea is simple: if customers ask a chatbot instead of searching, you want to know whether you are named or skipped.

Why this exists

More people get answers without clicking anything. Digitaloft says 80% of users rely on zero-click results at least 40% of the time. They get what they need from the results page or an AI-generated answer. That leaves businesses with fewer signals on their own sites, such as clicks, scroll depth and engagement rate.

How the tools work

The tools take questions a customer might ask about a category, problem or product. They run those questions through chatbots such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, then record the answers. One check is not enough, because the same question can return different answers between runs. So the tools repeat the checks on a schedule and look for patterns. They typically track:

  • Mentions, where your brand is named in an answer
  • Citations, where an answer includes a clickable link to a source
  • Sentiment, share of voice and competitor presence

What it costs and covers

Coverage depends on the plan. Profound tracks ChatGPT on its Starter tier, three answer engines on Growth, and up to nine on Enterprise. HubSpot's own tool, AEO, tracks ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. It runs 25 prompts daily on the standalone version and costs $50 a month, or $45 a month billed annually. Semrush offers SEO and AI visibility in one workspace.

What to keep in mind

The roundup comes from HubSpot, which sells one of the tools it ranks. The material does not give prices for most of the others. Before buying, compare what the entry plan includes with what needs an upgrade. Teams that want to move results into their own dashboards should also check whether the plan allows exports or API access.

The takeaway

Before paying for an AI visibility tool, check which chatbots the entry plan covers and whether it lets you export your data.
