Microsoft is ending support for Copilot, its AI helper, on smart TVs. A message on an LG TV says the feature may stop working shortly. If your TV has a Copilot shortcut, expect it to go dead.

What changed

The news did not come from an official announcement by LG, Samsung or Microsoft. It came from an on-screen notice on an LG TV belonging to Zac Bowden of Windows Central. The notice said Microsoft decided to end Copilot support on all TVs. It called the feature "scheduled for discontinuation during 2026" and said the exact date is "subject to Microsoft's timeline."

LG and Samsung announced Copilot for their TVs at CES 2025. It worked as a chat companion. Viewers could ask questions, ask about what was on screen, or get show and movie suggestions. Earlier this year, Microsoft launched a Copilot "super app" aimed more at business and productivity than at being a digital companion.

What to do

Nothing is required. Last December, LG drew backlash after adding a Copilot shortcut to its TVs that could not be removed. It opened the AI assistant's web app in a browser. LG later let owners delete it. If the shortcut bothers you, you can remove it from an LG TV.

What is not known yet

No exact shutoff date has been given. It is also unclear whether Samsung owners will see a similar notice, since the report only describes one on an LG set.

The takeaway

Copilot on smart TVs is expected to stop working in 2026, and LG owners can delete the shortcut now if they want it gone.
