Meta has quietly launched Style Sketch, an AI app that suggests outfits using clothes you already own. For now, it is available only in Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, on iPhone and Android.

What it does

The app can connect to Instagram and build a virtual closet from photos you have posted. You can also add clothes yourself by taking a photo, recording a short video or uploading images from your camera roll.

From there, it suggests outfit combinations matched to your style. You can try them on a model that the app description says is matched to your body shape and skin tone. You can also pick one item and get new ideas built around it.

For trips, you enter your destination, trip length and planned activities. The app then gives a day-by-day outfit plan that accounts for the weather forecast and your itinerary.

What is not known yet

Meta did not respond to a request for comment, so it is unclear whether Style Sketch will reach other countries. The material does not say what it costs.

The idea is not new. Startups like Alta, and even Google Photos, offer digital closets. Meta's edge may be Instagram, where many people already keep a visual record of their style. If the app does come to the US, check what it can see before you connect your account.

The takeaway

Style Sketch is limited to three countries, but if it spreads, check what it can access on Instagram before you connect it.
