Meta has bought Conductor, a small startup whose software lets software developers run several AI coding helpers at the same time. The price was not disclosed. The practical news for current users is a deadline: Conductor's cloud service shuts down on November 20, and data stored there will be deleted.
What Conductor does
Conductor launched in July 2025. It gives developers one place to manage multiple AI coding agents, which are programs that write and change code on their own. It works with tools such as Anthropic's Claude Code and OpenAI's Codex. A developer can hand different tasks to different agents, each working on a separate copy of the code, then review the results before combining them.
What Meta plans
Conductor's founder and CEO, Charlie Holtz, said the team will work with Nat Friedman and Meta Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang at Meta Superintelligence Labs. He wrote that there are "big, crazy plans for the next interface." That new interface is planned for early 2027. Meta has not said whether it will work with the outside tools Conductor supports today.
What analysts say
Analysts quoted by InfoWorld see an opening for Meta in companies that want many AI agents working in parallel. They also point to risks.
- Omdia's Lian Jye Su says human review before merging code is a key safety check.
- Su also says more agents talking to each other widens the room for attacks.
- Pareekh Jain says Meta still needs strong security and governance tools.
- Jain calls the deal "a small step, not a game-changer."
Jain said parallel agents could speed up software releases and lower development costs. Costs can also run away. PYMNTS noted that Uber used its full 2026 AI budget in four months after encouraging engineers to use agentic coding tools without usage limits.
Key dates for users
Conductor has stopped accepting new users. Cloud customers can move their workspaces to the local app or export their data before the shutdown.
- November 13: Conductor Cloud becomes read-only.
- November 20: the cloud service shuts down and cloud data is deleted.
- Early 2027: the local app, which keeps getting new AI models and critical bug fixes until then, begins winding down.
What is still unknown
Meta has not shared what the deal cost or what the new interface will look like. It also has not said whether Conductor's current approach of working across rival AI tools will survive. Analysts expect Meta to stay open to other companies' models, but that is a forecast, not a promise.
The takeawayIf your team uses Conductor Cloud, export your data or move to the local app before November 20, and expect the product to change.
