Maybelline now lets ChatGPT users try on makeup with their camera and find stores that sell it, a sign shopping is moving into AI chat.
Maybelline New York has launched a virtual makeup try-on inside ChatGPT. You can ask for product ideas, see shades on your own face, then tap a button to find where to buy them. The company says it is the first beauty brand to offer real-time makeup try-on directly in the platform. It became available on October 29.
Search for Maybelline in the Apps section of ChatGPT. From there, you can ask for recommendations based on an occasion, your skin undertone or your personal style. Then you can preview products and shades using a live camera or an uploaded photo.
The try-on runs on ModiFace, technology from Maybelline's parent company, L'Oréal. A "Where to Buy" function points to local stores and online retailers, so the path from browsing to buying stays in one place.
Many people already use AI tools to research what to buy. Maybelline is placing its products right in that conversation, without a traditional product catalog. The launch follows a pilot L'Oréal showed at VivaTech 2026 and is part of a wider effort to offer its beauty expertise through conversational AI.
