MacPaw has launched Eney, an AI assistant for Mac and iPhone. The company says it keeps track of what is happening across your apps, files and system, prepares the next step, and then asks before it does anything. A free 14-day trial is available.

What it does

On the Mac, Eney offers suggestions when you copy something. It can transcribe meetings without a bot joining the call, then write up notes and follow-ups. It also has ready-made routines, including Morning Brief and Plan My Day.

A feature called Eney Wand, opened with Option-W, acts on whatever you drag onto it. It can translate text, convert prices, turn dates into calendar events and pull text out of images. Eney also warns about low disk space, memory pressure and apps that keep crashing.

  • Works out of the box with Apple Mail, Calendar and Reminders
  • Also connects to Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Drive
  • Also connects to Slack, Notion, Jira and Linear

Asking first

MacPaw describes Eney as "proactive, never autonomous." By default, it asks before sending a message, changing a calendar event or moving a file. That matters for anyone wary of software acting on its own.

Eney is the first product built on MacPaw's own AI technology. That includes a memory layer called Mnemos. MacPaw says Mnemos manages only Eney's own memory and never reads or changes your files.

Cost and requirements

Eney for Mac can be downloaded from eney.ai. It needs a Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 15 or later. The trial includes 10,000 AI credits. After that, a paid credits plan is required.

  • Starter: 10,000 credits for $14.99 a month
  • Boost: 25,000 credits for $29.99 a month
  • Power: 50,000 credits for $49.99 a month

What is unclear

You can sign in with a Setapp account, but MacPaw says a Setapp membership is not required on the Mac. An iPhone companion app is on the App Store. Its listing calls it a companion for active Setapp members, so it is unclear who can use it on the phone.

The material also does not say how much work a set number of credits covers. That makes it hard to know which plan fits your use before you try it.

The takeaway

Eney is free to try for 14 days, but check the credit plans and how far 10,000 credits go before you pay.
