Apple's new Siri now saves your conversations. With iOS 27, Siri became a chatbot with its own app, and like ChatGPT or Google Gemini, it keeps past chats so you can return to them later. If you ask it about gift ideas or anything private, that history sits on your phone until you remove it.
What changed
Siri used to be a voice assistant that answered and moved on. The new Siri AI can use your personal information and understand what is on your screen. The new app adds a record of what you asked and what it replied, including images it created.
Apple says it does not access this data, which stays on your device. When a request needs the cloud, Apple says it deletes what was processed as soon as your phone gets the answer. Apple also says it does not train its models on your data unless you give permission.
Who it affects
The new Siri AI works only on devices that support Apple Intelligence, including the iPhone 15 Pro or newer. It is not available to users in Europe. iOS 27.2 expands the languages Siri can speak to six, still well short of the 15 languages Apple Intelligence supports.
Who can relax
If your main worry is Apple reading your chats, there is little reason for alarm. Apple says conversations are private. It says cloud requests run through a system called Private Cloud Compute, which keeps the data from being stored on Apple's servers. Apple also runs a program that pays people who find flaws in those systems or show that Apple is storing data. BGR reports no major privacy concerns so far.
Deleting is mostly about people nearby. A partner might see a gift search. A silly question might be one you want forgotten. Or you may simply dislike keeping a chat history.
What to do
The steps in the alert box above cover deleting chats, setting how long Siri keeps them, limiting data sharing and locking the app. One more step is worth a look. In Siri settings, turn off the ChatGPT extension. It was handy when Apple's own models were weaker, but OpenAI could gather information if you signed in with your ChatGPT login.
The Face ID or Touch ID lock is the easiest protection. Anyone can still use Siri AI, but only you can open the saved messages and images.
What happens next
The report does not say when Siri AI will reach Europe or add more languages. For now, check your retention setting and the sharing toggles after any update, since those are the controls that decide what stays on your phone.
The takeawaySet Siri to keep chats for 30 days, turn off the data-sharing toggles and lock the Siri app with Face ID or Touch ID.
