Halide, a camera app, has released an update built for the iPhone Duo, Apple's foldable phone. It adds a shooting mode for each of the three ways the Duo can be held or folded. One of them, used with the phone half open, turns it into something like an old waist-level viewfinder camera.

What changed

The update comes from Lux Optics, the developer behind Halide. Engadget reports it includes new interface choices for each pose. One notable option lets users move the camera controls when the phone is fully open or partly open. In the half-open pose, that makes the Duo act like a waist-level viewfinder camera, a style of camera held low and looked down into.

Who it is for

The update is free today for Halide Mark III users who own an iPhone Duo. It matters beyond Halide, too. When Engadget reviewed the Duo, outside app support was a big question. Halide's quick update is an early sign of how developers may use the folding design.

What is not known yet

Lux Optics says more Duo-focused features are in the works. The material does not say what they are or when they will arrive. It also does not say whether the new modes reach people who do not use Halide Mark III.

The takeaway

If you own an iPhone Duo and use Halide Mark III, the new folding-pose modes are free to try today.
