Google has published new release notes for two of its home devices. The Chromecast with Google TV (4K) update promises better connectivity, media streaming and display performance. The Nest Wifi Pro router has three updates listed, but its new software has not shown up yet.
What changed
Earlier this month, the 4K Chromecast got its first update of 2026. Google's notes then mentioned only the August 2026 Android security patch and general bug fixes. The notes posted October 29, 2026 add the connectivity, streaming and display line.
The HD Chromecast is also getting this update. Google has not posted its new software version yet.
For Nest Wifi Pro, Google lists three updates. The version shown in the notes and on the device is still 3.78.518349, from February or March 2026. That suggests the new software has not rolled out. Google also posted notes for this month's update to the older Nest Wifi (2019).
What to do
Updates on these devices install on their own, so most people need to do nothing. If streaming stutters or your Wi-Fi feels off, check the device settings to see which software version you have. It is not yet known when the Nest Wifi Pro update will arrive or when the HD Chromecast build will be posted.
The takeawayThese updates install on their own, but if streaming or Wi-Fi acts up, check your device settings for the current software version.
