Google Keep's Gemini Button Builds Your Checklists in Seconds

Google Keep now has a Gemini sparkle button that turns a short request into a tickable checklist, but it needs a Google AI plan or a supported Pixel phone.

Google Keep, the note app many people use for grocery lists, can now build a full checklist from one short request. A writer at Android Police tested the Gemini feature for a month and says it cut the time he spent making lists. It works on Android phones, but not for everyone for free.

What changed

Google added its Gemini AI helper to Keep. In a new note, a sparkle icon or a "Help me create a list" button sits in the lower-right corner. Type what you need, and Gemini drafts the list. Tap Insert, and it becomes a checklist you can tick off as you go.

How it works in practice

The tester says the quality of the list depends on the request. A vague prompt gives a vague list. A detailed one, written as if talking to a personal assistant, works much better. His examples:

  • A week of high-protein, vegetarian Mediterranean meals for two people on a $100 budget.
  • A packing list for a four-day business trip to London in November, with tech essentials and formal attire.
  • A step-by-step checklist for a beginner building a raised garden bed, with a materials list.

He says the London list reminded him to pack a UK power adapter and an umbrella, two things he might have forgotten.

Finding old notes

A second trick uses the Google Workspace extension. In the Gemini web or mobile app, tap your profile, open Extensions, and make sure the Google Workspace switch is on. Gemini can then read across Docs, Gmail and Keep notes.

After that, typing @Google Keep in the Gemini prompt box lets you ask for details from a saved note. The tester pulled a tech list from his London trip and décor ideas for a bedroom this way. He only needs to remember the rough note title.

What to know first

The in-app Gemini features in Keep require a Google AI plan, such as Google One AI Premium, or a supported Google Pixel phone. The article does not give prices.

The writer also calls the feature early. Gemini's abilities in Keep are limited to creating checklists. Creating a list still means opening Keep, tapping the AI button and typing a prompt there. He plans to keep using labels to organize notes. This is one person's month of testing, and his claim of saving dozens of hours is his own estimate.

The takeaway

If you have a Pixel or a Google AI plan, open a new Keep note, tap the sparkle icon and describe the list you need in detail.
