Gemini can now use your Google Maps searches and saved places

Google's Gemini app can now look at your Maps searches and saved places to plan your day, if you allow it. A separate notice hints a reasoning mode may go away.

Gemini can now use your Google Maps searches and saved places when it answers questions, as long as you give permission. Google says pairing that with your Calendar lets Gemini give tailored recommendations for your day. The feature is part of Personal Intelligence, which is also coming to Android Auto this week.

What changed

Personal Intelligence uses your emails, docs, photos, videos and more, so you do not have to spell everything out. Since launch, a Connected App called Search services has let Gemini reach Search, Maps, Shopping, News, and Google Flights and Hotels. Maps access now extends to your own searches and saved places.

Google's example: ask for the best spot after today's meetings from a list of restaurants you have been meaning to try. Gemini checks where your last meeting is, then looks for saved places nearby.

What to do

  • Turn the feature on at gemini.google.com/personalization-settings.
  • Review what you are letting Gemini see before you switch it on.
  • Remember that Maps history and Calendar entries can reveal where you go and when.

Deep Think may be leaving

A short in-app notice suggests Deep Think could be phased out. It is a reasoning mode in Gemini 3.1 Pro, set above High, Medium and Low. It was last updated in February. The notice does not say whether the mode is going away or the whole Gemini 3.1 Pro model is being retired.

The takeaway

The Maps feature is opt-in, so check what Gemini can see in your settings before turning it on.
