DoorDash is rolling out an AI tool that suggests when and where Dashers should work, but the suggestions come with no promise of orders or pay.

DoorDash is adding an AI feature to its Dasher app that lets delivery workers ask, in plain words, when and where they should work. A Dasher can type something like "When and where should I dash on Friday" and get a suggested time window and location. The company announced the update at Dash Forward 2026 on September 30.

What changed

Planning a shift usually means checking several parts of the app, looking at scheduling options and judging how busy nearby areas are. Experienced Dashers also lean on what they know about local restaurants and customer habits. The new tool lets them ask a question and get a suggestion based on their circumstances and available information.

DoorDash's own example was an 11 AM to 2 PM session in the Dasher's neighborhood, leaving enough time to be home for school pickup. The company says the tool supports planning and does not replace what is already in the app.

Who it affects

The feature is aimed at experienced Dashers, especially people who fit deliveries around other duties. That could be a parent with a few free hours, a student, or someone with another job who only has evenings open. The idea is to skip the work of comparing every possible time slot by hand.

A separate tool, DashBuddy, is aimed at newcomers. It works by text message in the United States and Canada and answers common questions about scheduling, hotspots, payments and getting started. DoorDash says more than 200,000 Dashers had used it as of September 2026.

What to keep in mind

A suggested time or place is not a promise of orders or a certain level of earnings. Recommendations are suggestions, and real opportunities depend on local availability. Dashers still review each offer and decide whether to accept it. Before trusting a suggested shift, it helps to count the costs of working it:

  • Fuel
  • Vehicle maintenance
  • Insurance
  • Mobile connectivity

What is not known yet

DoorDash is rolling the planning features out across the United States. Access depends on the rollout schedule and on each account's eligibility, so not every Dasher will see it right away.

The material from DoorDash does not explain how the suggestions are made, what information they draw on, or how accurate they turn out to be. There are also no figures yet on how the tool affects Dasher earnings. Details on getting started as a Dasher are on dasher.doordash.com.

The takeaway

Treat DoorDash's AI shift suggestions as a planning aid, and check fuel, car and phone costs before counting on any suggested shift.
