Companies on Claude Enterprise no longer have to pick between chat and Cowork. Anthropic says the combined experience is now generally available for Enterprise plans. Staff can ask a quick question or hand off a full project in the same conversation, on web, desktop or mobile. Pro and Max plans got the same change in September.
What changed
Every conversation starts as a normal chat. A simple question gets a quick answer. If the task needs Claude to run code or work with files, it carries on in the cloud and returns a finished document, analysis or deck. Cowork is the part of Claude that takes on bigger jobs like these.
Because the work runs in Anthropic's cloud, it keeps going after someone closes their laptop. They can pick it up later on another device. Existing chats, projects, connectors, skills and plugins carry over.
Security and admin controls
Anthropic says the new setup builds on controls companies already use, including single sign-on and the Compliance API. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. It is not used for model training by default.
Each cloud session runs in its own isolated virtual machine, which is a sealed-off computer environment. Network egress, meaning the ability to send data out to the internet, is off by default for Enterprise. Connector passwords stay outside that sealed space. Admins can limit access by role.
What it costs
Enterprise pricing stays usage-based, so the bill follows how much Claude is used. Anthropic says the newest models are more efficient. It says Claude Opus 5.5 costs 40% less to run than Opus 5 on typical work. It says Claude Sonnet 5.5 costs up to 30% less than Sonnet 5 for most work.
There is a catch. Agentic work, where Claude carries out a multistep task on its own, can use more tokens than a quick chat. Tokens are the small units Claude uses to measure usage. Admins get four controls to manage this. One is a new Efficient mode. The material does not detail the other three.
Early feedback
Anthropic shared customer comments. Carvana says employees can start a task on a computer and finish on a phone, with alerts when results are ready. One organization said Claude turned stacks of government budget documents into a report in under ten minutes of prompting, work it says would have taken weeks. Quantium said the merge answers clients asking which Claude to use.
What to do
Businesses already on Claude Enterprise should check what their admins have set for roles and usage. Watch the first few billing cycles, since longer jobs may cost more than chats did.
The takeawayIf your company uses Claude Enterprise, one tool now covers chat and big projects, but longer jobs can use more, so watch usage and set limits.
