Cancel Your Streaming Services Now to Qualify for Black Friday Deals

Streaming services often give Black Friday deals only to new or returning customers, so canceling a service you barely use now could pay off later.

If you want a cheap streaming deal on Black Friday, November 27, 2026, the time to cancel is about now. Many services offer big discounts only to "new" and "eligible returning" customers. If you are still subscribed when the deal appears, you will likely be shut out.

Why the timing matters

Each year, some of the best Black Friday deals come from streaming services. They often discount several months of service, sometimes up to a full year of savings. Each platform defines "returning customer" in its own way, but the term almost always leaves out current users.

Waiting until Black Friday to cancel does not fix it. If you cancel that day and try to sign up again, you will likely still pay full price. There is no single waiting period for every service. Based on years of covering these deals, you often need to be unsubscribed for at least a month.

Which services to drop

That is your call. If you are in the middle of a show like "House of the Dragon" or "Lanterns," keeping HBO Max may be worth missing a possible deal. If you could go 30 days without Paramount Plus, canceling it is not a bad idea.

Who has offered deals before

It is not yet known which services will take part this year. Here is what happened in the past.

  • Disney Plus usually has a deal, often involving Hulu bundles.
  • Paramount Plus and HBO Max are frequent participants.
  • Apple TV had a special offer last year.
  • Starz and FOX One ran limited-time deals last year.
  • Netflix has traditionally skipped Black Friday. Peacock had no deal last year.

The ESPN catch

Disney Plus, Hulu and the ESPN streaming service all use the same MyDisney login. For some bundle offers, a paid ESPN account often counts as being an existing customer. That could block you from a Disney Plus and Hulu deal.

What to keep in mind

Other workarounds may exist, such as a different email or another credit card. Canceling is simpler. Eligibility finally comes down to the fine print once a deal launches. Even without a deal, canceling saves money for at least a month, and dropping several services at once is a good way to see what you can live without.

The takeaway

Cancel streaming services you barely use now, since many Black Friday deals exclude current subscribers, and check the fine print when deals launch.
