Paymentus, a company that powers online bill payment for other businesses, reported record revenue of $372.2 million for the third quarter. That is up 19.8% from a year earlier. Founder and CEO Dushyant Sharma discussed the results on an earnings call on Monday, Nov. 2.
What the numbers show
The company handled 219.0 million transactions in the quarter, up 20.1% from a year earlier. It also added to the number of billers it serves. A biller is any company that sends you a bill. Sharma said nearly 1 out of 3 households and businesses use the Paymentus platform to pay their bills.
Chief Financial Officer Sanjay Kalra said that as the company signs larger clients, its pricing and profit per transaction will vary from quarter to quarter. He said those larger clients are paying similar or higher prices than they paid other providers.
The AI piece
Sharma also spoke about agentic experiences. That means AI tools that can take actions for a customer, not just answer questions. He said Paymentus wants its own version for its own customers. The goal, he said, is to keep the company in charge of the relationship between its clients and their customers.
Paymentus offers both digital and assisted channels, so customers can pay on their own or get help. Details are not yet known on what the AI tools will look like, when they will arrive, or which billers will offer them.
The takeawayIf you pay bills online, Paymentus may already be behind the screen, and AI help with your accounts is something the company says it plans to build.
