AT&T's home security system can now answer questions about what your cameras recorded. The company says Connected Life is the "first" home security product to work with Google Home Premium, which brings Google's Gemini AI into the system. Instead of scrubbing through hours of video, you can ask.
What it does
Gemini for Home can describe events your cameras capture, such as who delivered a package and how many items they left. You can search saved video by typing a question, like "What dug up the yard last night?" or "Who let the dogs out?" It can also give daily summaries of activity inside and outside your home.
- Plain-language search of recorded video
- Detailed descriptions of events, like deliveries
- Daily summaries of home activity
- Automatic arming and disarming based on how close you are to home
What it costs and what is unclear
These features only work with AT&T's professional Connected Life monitoring plan, which costs $29.99 a month. AT&T launched the system last December with Google and Abode. The update uses Google's Home APIs, which are tools that let smart home brands build AI features into their products. ADT has also hinted at adding Gemini for Home features.
The material does not say when the update reaches customers, which cameras are covered, or whether Google Home Premium costs extra.
The takeawayIf you already pay for home monitoring, AT&T's new AI search could save time, but it requires the $29.99 monthly plan.
