Apple has announced a new 14-inch MacBook Pro with its M6 chip. It starts at $1,999. Pre-orders open Wednesday, October 28, at 10:10 a.m. Pacific Time, and the laptop becomes available Friday, November 6.
What you get
The M6 model has a 12-core processor and a 12-core graphics chip. It also supports Wi-Fi 7, a newer wireless networking standard. Apple says the battery lasts up to 24 hours. It comes in Space Black or Silver.
The $1,999 starting model includes 16GB of memory, which helps the laptop juggle many open apps, and 1TB of storage for files. The top setup offers 32GB of memory and 4TB of storage. Apple removed the 512GB storage option from the M5 model in March, so 1TB is now where the lineup begins.
How to order
Pre-orders run through apple.com and the Apple Store app. If you want one on the first day it ships, ordering when pre-orders open is the way to do it.
What is not clear yet
The announcement material does not say what the higher memory and storage upgrades cost. It also does not say how much faster the M6 is than the M5. Those details matter if your budget is tight, so check Apple's pricing page before you decide.
