Anyone can now try Apple's next big software update early. Apple released the first public betas of iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS Golden Gate 27.3, tvOS 27.3 and watchOS 27.3. They arrived two days after the versions for developers. A beta is an early test version that Apple shares before the final release.

What is in the update

On iPhone, Safari gets a Vertical Tabs layout option and an Adaptive Dark Mode. Siri AI can do more inside and across Apple's apps, and developers can now build actions for Siri to carry out. The redesigned Health app adds custom Insights and Longevity information. Apple Music gains a Selfie Sing feature.

The iPhone Duo supports Reachability, and StandBy changes on iPhones that are not the Duo. On the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, Live Rewind writes a transcript of the last 15 seconds of speech. Siri Recap gives a short summary of conversations through the day.

On Mac, macOS Golden Gate 27.3 has the same Safari features. It also brings Live Activities to Macs without a Dynamic Island.

Should you install it

Beta software can be buggy, so most people should wait. Apple is expected to launch all of these updates in December. The material does not say which devices can run the beta, so check Apple's instructions before trying it. Anyone who does should avoid using a phone or Mac they depend on for work.

The takeaway

The beta is open to try now, but unless you enjoy testing, wait for the final version expected in December.
