Apple Now Pays More for Your Old iPad and Mac

Apple raised U.S. trade-in values for every iPad type and most Macs, so an old device you plan to swap out may bring more credit than before.

Apple has raised what it will give you for an old iPad or Mac. The company updated its U.S. trade-in estimates on the same day it announced a new iPad mini. Every iPad category went up, and so did most Macs.

What changed

The iPad increases are small. The iPad mini and the standard iPad each gain $20, the iPad Air gains $15 and the iPad Pro gains $10.

The Mac increases are bigger. The Mac Pro rises $365, the Mac Studio $240, the MacBook Pro $120 and the MacBook Air $90. The iMac Pro did not change and stays at up to $340. iPhone and Apple Watch values are the same as in September.

Mac values have been climbing all year. The top MacBook Pro value is now $1,435, more than double the $690 it was in May. The MacBook Air is at $795, up from $520.

What to do

These figures are maximums, not promises. Apple says the final offer depends on the device's condition, year and configuration. An older or worn machine will get less than the top number.

The credit can go toward a qualifying new purchase or onto an Apple Gift Card. If you are thinking about upgrading, it is worth checking your device's estimate again. The source does not list values for every individual model, so the exact figure for yours is not known until you get a quote.

The takeaway

If you plan to upgrade, get a fresh trade-in quote from Apple, but expect less than the listed maximum if your device is older or worn.
