Airbnb says it will launch its own AI travel agent in the first half of 2027. The tool is meant to help you plan a trip, compare places to stay and manage bookings. It is also meant to help while you are away, with things like rebooking, refunds and payment problems.
What changed
Airbnb had teased the idea before. Earlier, it only said to expect the agent sometime in the next year. In its third-quarter shareholder letter on Thursday, it committed to the first half of 2027 and explained more about how the agent will work.
Not just a chatbot
CEO Brian Chesky argues that a plain text chat is the wrong way to plan travel. He said 80% of travelers enjoy researching trips, and that people want to look at photos, compare homes and decide together with the people they travel with.
So Airbnb says the agent will build a screen around your question. It will draw from hundreds of travel-specific pieces, such as maps, photos, comparisons, calendars and itineraries, and put them together on the spot.
Help during your stay
Airbnb says the agent will be able to help guests throughout a trip. That includes:
- Changing a reservation
- Resolving a payment issue
- Getting help with refunds and rebooking
- 24-hour safety support
The company says an outside AI agent cannot easily do these things on its own. Over time, it expects the agent to cover services and experiences, not only homes and hotels. Airbnb also says the agent draws on nearly 20 years of insight into how people book and host on its platform.
Why Airbnb is doing this
The news came with strong results. Third-quarter revenue rose 19% to $4.87 billion, topping Wall Street estimates. Airbnb called it its fastest growth in more than three years. It also raised its 2026 revenue growth forecast to the high teens, up from the mid-teens.
What is not known yet
Airbnb has not shared an exact launch date within the first half of 2027 in the material available. Details on price, supported countries and any tools for hosts are also not given. For now, nothing needs to change. Travelers can simply expect an assistant inside the app next year.
The takeawayAirbnb plans a built-in AI agent for 2027 that plans trips and fixes booking problems, so an outside AI tool may not be needed.
