After 30 days on a Samsung Galaxy phone, one reviewer picked Gemini over Grok and Claude because it works with the apps he already uses.

Android Police writer Parth Shah spent 30 days switching between three AI assistants on Android: Google's Gemini, xAI's Grok and Anthropic's Claude. His pick was Gemini. The reason was not that it is the smartest. It was that it fits into the phone the best. He says the smartest AI model does not always give the best mobile experience.

Why Gemini won

Gemini works with many of the apps he already uses, including Google Photos, YouTube Music, Samsung Notes, Samsung Reminders, WhatsApp and Google Messages. He could ask it to find a photo, play a playlist, set a reminder or send a WhatsApp message without opening those apps. It also works in Android Auto, the car mode, so he could handle tasks while keeping his eyes on the road.

He also praised its design and its image tool, called Nano Banana, which he used for social media posters. He was not happy with the older Gemini 3 models, which felt robotic. He says Gemini 4 is better and now reliable for everyday tasks.

Where Grok fell short

Grok scored well. He liked its clean look, quick answers and light vibration while it writes. It makes images and video, and he found its images better than Gemini's. It also has a Kids mode, though he would still watch a child using it.

The problem was phone control. Grok could not create a quick task or change phone settings, and it did not connect with several apps he uses.

Where Claude fell short

Claude's app was clean, fast and accurate. But it has no built-in image or video tools, which mattered to him because he makes visuals for Instagram. It connects to services such as Gmail, Google Drive, Outlook and Notion. Even so, he could not use it to quickly make notes in his preferred notes app or send messages the way he wanted.

He was more positive about Claude on a desktop computer. He called Claude Cowork impressive for multistep tasks and Claude Design strong for creative work. On a desktop, he says, Claude could be a serious contender.

What to weigh

This is one person's test, on one Samsung phone, and his needs will not be yours. He also named real downsides for Gemini.

  • Google offers too many AI models, which makes choosing confusing.
  • The most capable Gemini options sit behind expensive subscription tiers.
  • His subscription includes 5TB of Google Drive storage, which he called generous.
The takeaway

Before picking a phone AI assistant, test whether it can handle the apps and tasks you use every day, not just whether its answers sound smart.
