Statik has made a USB-C charging cable that also works as a phone stand. The PowerStand costs $20. Two foldable feet on the plug end let your phone stand upright on a nightstand or hotel desk, with no extra gadget in your bag. 9to5Google reviewed it and liked it.
What it does
One end of the braided cable is a standard USB-C plug. The other end is a right-angle plug on a raised, extended base. By itself it looks a little clunky, the reviewer says, but it makes sense once a phone is attached. The two feet swivel out. Stand the phone upright for charging, or turn it sideways to watch a video.
How it held up
The reviewer found the upright position well balanced. A shove will knock the phone over, but it does not tip on its own. The feet slot into place quickly and lock in well.
The raised base is meant to work with phone cases. It fit an iPhone in a Nomad case and a Pixel 10 Pro in a Peak Design case. The plug also felt secure on a Pixel with no case.
The specs
- Length: 6.6 feet, with a braided finish
- Power: rated for 240W
- Data: USB 2.0 speeds
- Price: $20
The kickstand end can also be used with a laptop, according to the review.
Another Statik cable
Statik also makes the PowerPivot Pro, also $20. One side has both USB-C and USB-A ends. The other has a USB-C tip that rotates in any direction. Statik says it is 20 times tougher than a normal cable. The reviewer was less sold on it, but said it could help in a car with Android Auto or CarPlay if a phone is wedged into a tight spot.
What is not known
The material does not say where the PowerStand is sold or whether it works with every phone. It also gives no details on how it performs over time. The praise comes from one reviewer's hands-on use.
The takeawayIf a travel-friendly phone stand sounds useful, the $20 Statik PowerStand cable does both jobs in one piece.
