YouTube is testing a way for some channels to avoid being shut down. For certain spam violations, eligible channels will get 30 days to fix the problem instead of losing the channel right away.
What changed
YouTube shared the test on its Help page. It describes a new option for creators facing immediate termination over certain spam policy violations. Eligible channels can self-correct, edit or remove the flagged content. Creators will be told by email and in YouTube Studio on desktop. Their choices:
- Fix the flagged videos with the Studio Editor.
- Delete only the problem videos.
- Delete every video on the channel, which unlocks it right away.
- Submit an appeal. The channel unlocks once the content passes review.
Deleting everything is a drastic step. It may suit channels with many flagged videos, where editing one by one would take too long. Until now, creators have often described waking up to a locked channel and getting few answers from support.
What is still unknown
This is a test, and it covers certain spam violations, not every kind of rule breaking. The report does not say which spam violations count, who counts as eligible, or whether the option will become permanent. For anyone running a channel for a business, the 30 days is a real deadline, so watch your email and YouTube Studio closely.
The takeawayIf YouTube flags your channel for spam, check email and YouTube Studio often, because the 30-day window to fix it starts at the notice.
