Yelp can now send an AI phone agent to call a restaurant and ask how long the wait is. The feature is called "Check for Me." The agent makes the call, then texts the answer to you. It is one of more than 30 new features in Yelp's 2026 Fall Product Release, aimed at both diners and local businesses.
What changed
The update touches several parts of the app. For diners, the Yelp Assistant now works with OpenTable, so you can book a table without leaving Yelp. A new tool called "My Lists" lets you save, rank and share your favorite local spots. Yelp will also send personalized weekly recommendations based on your rankings.
For businesses, the biggest addition is "Smart Lead Reply." It uses AI to answer and sort incoming customer questions automatically. A lead is simply a person who has shown interest in hiring or visiting a business.
Who it affects
Restaurant owners may see fewer calls from people asking about the wait, since the AI agent may handle part of that curiosity from the customer side. Diners who give up when a line looks long may be more willing to show up once they have a real answer.
Home service businesses get new links as well. Yelp's booking tools now connect with ServiceTitan and Housecall Pro, two programs that tradespeople use to manage jobs and appointments. The idea is to keep inquiries and bookings in one place, so fewer leads slip through.
Ads and tracking
The release also includes new advertising options. Intent-based custom creative ads let a business target people based on their earlier interactions. Yelp has also added an easy connection to Shopify to track ad conversions, meaning how many ad views turn into actual customers. That helps owners see whether their ad money is working.
What to keep in mind
- Staff may need time to learn the new tools before they save any time.
- Technology does not replace friendly, reliable service.
- Weekly recommendations built on user rankings make a strong review profile more important.
What is not known yet
The material does not say what any of these features cost, which ones are free, or exactly when each will reach every user. It also does not say how restaurants will know an AI agent is calling. Business owners should check Yelp's own blog post on the release for details before changing how they work.
The takeawayYelp's new AI tools may save restaurants and home service shops time on calls and bookings, but reviews and good service still decide who wins customers.
